My Story

I started learning about breathwork as a personal trainer looking to find ways of fixing my chronic back pain and ultimately helping others with injury issues. I learned that specific ways of breathing during training can help you connect to specific muscles that might have been inactive for some time. I learned about breath and performance also and how to train more efficiently via the breath and was amazed at the difference it was making.

Soon enough I was introduced to a Breathwork healing ceremony. I did not know what to expect at all but went along with an open mind. An hour later I’m lying on the floor in a beautifully relaxed state having cried my eyes out for the first time in over twenty years. I couldn’t tell you why I was crying, I just knew I desperately needed it. In the end I literally couldn't get up off the floor. This began a journey of experiences and learning. I found that all the things I had kept to myself, pushed down into me rather than let out and never dared to speak of were being given their chance to come out of me. I returned to childhood memories and allowed myself to do the crying I had not been able to do back then.Tensions were released, anger and rage were beginning to be a thing of the past. I was no longer reacting like a three year old to the simplest of things. My mental health was finally turning a corner.

On top of the breath and sound journeys I was going on I began a personal experiment with cold exposure. I’d seen Wim Hoff talk about its benefits so gave it a go. There are so many physiological benefits to ice baths but the absolute number one for me is the mental health aspect of it. I take myself to the beach on a winter's day and slowly walk in, controlling my breath, controlling my state, feeling everything. Submerged up to the chin in nature looking out at the horizon for a few minutes is one of the most peaceful experiences I have. The cold goes away, thoughts come and go. I return to the shore and then to the family home, a different man, a better man.

With my mental health improving like never before I knew I had to keep learning. I have spent the last couple of years learning as much as I can, becoming qualified in Breath Coaching and a Trauma Informed Coach to firstly work more on myself so that I can become someone of service, so I can help people who are having similar experiences to me when everything seemed lost.

What is Breathwork?

There is a broad spectrum to breathwork, from science based to super spiritual work, from super slow breathing to hyperventilation breathing, from fixing dysfunctional breath patterns to releasing stored trauma echoes and freeing a person from their past, allowing there to be a more positive now.

A private one on one session will allow you to understand what sort of breathing pattern you have and how we can go about altering it for better health, energy, sleep and more. If you are struggling with asthma, snoring, sleep apnoea or anxiety, breath retraining will be of benefit to you too.

There can be no anxiety in a functional breathing pattern.

Trauma release through breathwork ceremony has been described as ‘ten years of therapy in one hour!’ By breathing intensely, we can temporarily shut down the part of the brain that keeps us safe from our past, and access those parts that store trauma, stress and pain, we can then close off trauma that we might have disassociated from or stop a trauma echo from the past that might be holding us back. It’s not the trauma that we need to address, it's the way that the body reacts to it and in many cases, is still reacting. This process will allow you to finish the story of that trauma.
